GlobalGameStore has been selling video games, consoles, Funko Pops, trading cards and LEGO in Bari since 2003. It has a physical shop, a website and a catalogue of more than two thousand products that changes every day: new releases arrive, prices move, items sell out.
In July 2026 we started replacing the old online shop. The new site is now complete and in testing.
The problem: a heavy site, especially on a phone
The old site had grown one plugin at a time, as many online shops do. Its theme wasn't designed for phones, where most visits come from. A huge menu loaded on every page.
Buying took several steps. And the shop's gift cards could only be used at the till, not online.
Clean, light, phone first
We designed a clean shop: white background, rounded cards, product photos on a neutral backdrop. Every page is designed for a phone screen first, then widens.
Behind the scenes, the catalogue and the storefront are separate pieces. The storefront is light, and pages arrive ready-made instead of being assembled on every visit.

A menu with real products
On a computer, hovering over a category opens a panel with its subcategories. The right-hand column doesn't hold a stock image: it shows the shop's own promotions, then the real best sellers and new arrivals in that category.
On a phone the same menu becomes an accordion drawer that's easy to use with one thumb.
On the homepage every category has its own full-screen band in its own colours. The background shifts colour as you scroll from PlayStation to Nintendo, from Apple to Funko.
One game, one page
The same game comes out on several consoles and often in several editions. In the management system each one is a separate product, and on the site that would have meant a confusing list: five near-identical cards for the same title.
The site recognises them and groups them. Across the 2,162 products in the catalogue, 148 games now have a single page, and 32 of them come in more than one edition. Inside the page you pick the console and the edition, and see the price and availability of each.

Checkout on one screen
Address, delivery, payment and summary sit on a single page. There is one field for both discount codes and the shop's gift cards, which now work online too. Customers with an account find their details already filled in.
You can pay by card, PayPal, American Express or Klarna. There are three ways to get your order:
- BRT courier to your door;
- a BRT collection point, picked from a list of nearby points;
- pickup at the shop in Bari.
If you choose pickup, the confirmation email already tells you where to go, the opening hours and what to bring. When the order is ready in the shop, a second email arrives.
Pre-orders, with a countdown
Upcoming releases get a dark band of their own on the homepage, with two rows of covers scrolling in opposite directions. In the cart, a pre-order shows the release date and how many days are left.
Where we are
The site is complete and in testing: the shop is trying it out before the domain moves over. We'll share results when there are real numbers to share.
The storefront is only part of the work. The rest, how the site talks to the management system and to shipping, is in the next case.
Takeaway
Instead of a site that grew one plugin at a time, a custom shop: one page per game, checkout on one screen, pickup in Bari and BRT collection points. The site is in testing.
